LOCATIONS
JIGOKU-CHŌ ![]() Your home district for your stay in Hell. A youkai city overseen by the Enma, The Land of the Dead was once an orderly place where Lost Souls were processed. Power has shifted and now youkai clans vie for power and influence, using Lost Souls as one of many toys on their playground. Jigoku-chō is the hub of their operations. Jigoku-chō is an entertainment and red-light district in Hell characterized by its eccentric atmosphere and large illuminated signboards. Jigoku-chō is the location of many host and hostess clubs, love hotels, shops, restaurants, movie theaters, and nightclubs, and is often called a "Sleepless Town". The district is also famous for its plethora of small bars. The town lives by kuidaore, a Japanese word meaning to ruin oneself [go bankrupt] by extravagant spending on food or, more pithily, "eat until you drop". It is sometimes romanised as cuidaore, and is part of a larger proverb: "Ruin yourself with fashions in Kyoto, ruin yourself with meals in Osaka" (「京都の着倒れ、大阪の食い倒れ」). To navigate, there are exactly four major roads that one may rely on: Kokujou, Shugou, Kyoukan, Toukatsu, and then the river Sanzu. Otherwise, Jigoku-chō is defined by its warren of narrow alleyways that spread off in every direction: a map will not help you here. You'll learn your way, or you'll learn to ask for directions, or you'll just be lost, little soul. Street cars, taxis, and rickshaws may help you to certain extent, but only where the streets are wide enough for them and if you have the cash. After that, you're on your own. Clan territories are not divided as neatly as you might hope. While each group has some collected strongholds, many blocks are a mix-and-match of clan interests with their own politics and rivalries. Tread carefully. A header for player-submitted locations can be found here! A header for character owned or managed locations can be found here! |
SHUTEN TERRITORY | TAMAMO TERRITORY |
![]() Shuten Clan territory is the home of what equates to the yakuza life. You'll find the area to be the most typically urban and also the most typically rowdy with thugs. The shops and businesses here cater to that crowd. Food ⬤ Japanese style food with a working class feel: ramen, yakiniku, beef bowls, and curry are the cornerstones of cuisine in this region. Everything is heavy on the MEATS. While Oni were considered man eaters in antiquity, you actually won’t find human meat on any of the public menus... but that doesn't mean you can't find it if you dig deep enough. Shopping ⬤ The clothing stores in Shuten territory range from urban styles to yakuza-flash. Animal prints are big thanks to the region’s Oni influence. While weapon stores can be found in every region, the Shuten weapon stores focus on melee options for those who are inclined to crack skulls. They offer quality products at a high price. Convenience stores tend to stock liquor more than food, but you can still get plenty of meaty bento boxes here. There is also a large selection of "gentleman's" magazines, if you need something to tickle your other fancies. Drinking ⬤ Bars in Shuten territory have a large footprint to accommodate the big beefy boys who make up the Shuten ranks. They stock all kinds of wines and spirits, but they're curated to get you smashed out of your skull rather than to taste good; especially to a human tongue. The bars here are rowdy, not only are bar fights common they are an encouraged part of the culture. Diversions ⬤ People come to Shuten Clan territory for two primary reasons: gambling and fighting. There are pachislot parlors on nearly every corner, significantly more than any other district, and they offer all sorts of prizes from the cute and mundane to the dangerous. Gambling halls offer traditional games such as mahjon, cee-lo, cho-han, and a variety of hanafuda games. The biggest draw of the area is the Arena where skilled (and unskilled -- if you're brave and stupid) fighters duke it out for the pleasure of the crowds. Bets are big and you best pay up. The Arena is the crown jewel of Shuten territory. It is considered the largest base to their operations. | ![]() Tamamo Clan territory is home to the finer things in life. You'll find the area to be full of fine restaurants, shops catering to many fine indulgences, and the fanciest bars and cabaret clubs offering a fantasy for a night. Food ⬤ Tamamo territory is filled with restaurants. You will find plenty to eat here, and the claim to fame is the highest dining experiences. Sushi is one of the primary draws, offering up some truly extraordinary plates with some truly exquisite fish. There are also many traditional establishments serving up full Kaiseki dinners. Jingisukan, the Western-style steak houses, are served up with all the sides and extras you can imagine. This will cost you anywhere upwards of ¥80,000 for a single meal. Get ready to flash your cash and eat like royalty. Shopping ⬤ A clan that thrives on vice, many of the shops in Tamamo territory are sex shops that sell toys, costumes, and other accessories. There are specialty video stores with "private" viewing rooms should one, uh, require it. There is also a great deal of clothes stores in the area as well. Most of the local hosts and hostesses keep their sexy styles in the up-to-date fashions of the Tamamo clothing shops. The majority of the textile market is controlled by Tamamo, allowing them to sell kimono, yukata, hakama, and other garments in the finest of fabrics. Convenience stores in the area tend to follow the drugstore format: places where you can get medicine as well as the usual grab-and-go fare. Look here for your recreational drugs, as well. Drinking ⬤ Cabaret clubs and sex bars are the bread and butter of Tamamo territory. You will be hard pressed to find an establishment that isn't trying to get you worked up. However, a few down-to-earth bars do exist. They tend to be "meet up" spots for the town's many sex workers. That's just how things work here. Tamamo territory is where you can enjoy classy cocktails and the finer spirits that might actually be enjoyable to drink, though always on the expensive side. Diversions ⬤ Look to the Tamamo Clan for cabaret clubs, strip bars, soaplands, massage parlors; establishments that sell sex or companionship are the diversions of the territory. If you don't feel like going to the club for fun, there are plenty of ladies and gentlemen of the night who can be found for a good time. The primary den of decadence is leader Tenko-hime's own Mizukume, a traditional yuukaku style brothel where only the most beautiful and sought after work. It is the seat of their control of the district. |
SUTOKU TERRITORY | ENMA DEPARTMENT |
![]() Sutoku Alliance territory is the home of convenience. You will find modern fast foods, commercial chains, and places to wind down after a hard day's work. This is the home of the every man and is spirited with your day to day commercial capitalism. Food ⬤ The Sutoku region is abundant with modern fast food and fast casual restaurants: burger joints, pizza parlors, and modern cafes. If there is a chain restaurant that sells it, you can find it in Sutoku town. Their areas are covered with commercialized branding, almost to an obnoxious degree. A McDonald's or Starbucks from Hell, at your convenience. Shopping ⬤ The most common stores in Sutoku town are discount stores that play incessant catchy jingles. Beyond any other region, the Sutoku region has more department stores, grocers, and convenience store per square inch. The area is deeply commercial and devoted to more accessible shopping. Higher end stores do exist, they tend to sell electronics and hobbyist items. In fact, almost all hobby stores are in the region. Wander a shopping arcade with a coffee and get whatever you need. Drinking ⬤ Ikazaya bars and karaoke clubs are the big draws in Sutoku Alliance territory for drinking. We’re here for a good time, but not the sort of good time that feels seedy or dangerous (or especially expensive). Sing your drunken heart out at any of these establishments and you'll just be part of community. No one is judging you, we promise. Liquor tends to be cheap, but you can definitely get more expensive stuff if you're willing to toss the money around. Diversions ⬤ Entertainments in the Sutoku territory are diverse. Video game arcades are a big draw, as well as the various theaters. Night clubs here are focused on dancing and music performances. In fact, music and live shows are a huge money maker for the Alliance. Their base of operation is out of the largest nightclub in town: Konoha, where you will find the best performances in the city. The hottest tickets in town run through Konoha, always. | ![]() The Department of the Enma is not a place for fun and games. An administrative district where the law and order of the city is attended to; it's no place to mess around. Administrative Offices ⬤ The Department of the Enma owns a large complex of administrative buildings. Some of these buildings are also occupied by other factions, based upon their involvement with various aspects of the city's utility needs. The largest building of them all is a towering skyscraper: Kaigo no Bou. This "heavenly pillar" is visible from very part of the city, and The Enma's office resides at the very top; 88 stories up. From here, he watches over the city, keeping vigil. Kaigo no Bou is demarcated in red on the map. THE WASTELAND ![]() The desolate waste surrounding the city. Factionless traitors are banished to the wastes. Avoid at all costs ⬤ You won't enjoy yourself. There's nothing for you here. This place is not a place of honor. No highly esteemed deed is commemorated here. Nothing valued is here. |
